Cost barometer

This Costs Barometer (Kostenbarometer) was commissioned and updated by Steunpunt Economische Evaluatie (Support Centre for Economic Evaluation) and KiM. KiM and Rijkswaterstaat’s Centre for Transport and Navigation (DVS) jointly developed the Costs Barometer. DVS served as the project leader. KiM supplied the knowledge and a financial contribution. The Costs Barometer provides insights into the historical development of the costs of various transport modes and  allows for comparisons between the mutual costs of passenger and freight transportation. The Costs Barometer was first developed in the mid 1990s.

The Costs Barometer is comprised of excel files. The updated version consists of background information for the figures in the form of a complete description of the process of data acquisition, data processing and reporting. The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment can use this information as ‘input’ for traffic and transport models, to support cost-benefit analyses and to answer parliamentary questions. Users can find the various sections of the Costs Barometer on the website Rijkswaterstaat’s Support Centre for Economic Evaluation's Centre for Transport and Navigation
